Interesting that this subject came up again. Just yesterday I removed the white spacer on my '97.
It miked out at .100". I thought that might be too big of a change so I replaced it with a .043"
washer. I also redrilled the main jet to 150.
Wow, what a difference, with the drilled HD muffler it is a new bike. Acceleration is outstanding, backfiring much reduced, haven't had time to check top speed but I'm sure it is improved also. By the way, all the carb. screws came out easily after warming them with a soldering iron for about 30 sec. Have fun.
